Looooved this assignment. The purpose was to understand the behaviour of colours with respect to light. We had to put strips of colours beside one another on Illustrator, print, and then make folds exactly where one colour would separate from the other. I made loads of experiments, but this one was my final.
The idea was to print this on a 2 metre long paper, fold it, and then mount it on a wall. As the viewer walks past it from left to right (or the other way), they are treated to an array of colours. No two views would look the same, thus resulting in the 'optical illusion'. I really loved how the yellow turned to green just because the colour of the blue was being reflected off onto it~
Wow! Thanks You could try it too~ Its ridiculously easy, and it gives some really interesting results. There's so much potential for this thing to be use din home decor and stuff like that.
Iam a passionate craftsman also Always interested in stuff like this one here. last time more 3D+Animation, but from time to time also some tradional work like scribbles and painting, etc...
I'm not that into sculpture, but I when I'm asked to make something for classes and stuff, I do get into it sometimes. I wish I could doodle, however xD I'm just more into digital stuff.
That is an awesome piece. If I had the ability to print something like this, I would. Did you have to glue some pieces together? This is definitely something I would love to have on a wall.
I only had to glue the folds onto the board of foam core. It's all one piece of paper that I had to roll out and fold. It's a bit hard, but I always enjoy the folding~~
And you can make and print this easily! It's a bit expensive, and you might want to spend on a large ruler (about 60-70 cms), exacto knife and bone tool if you plan on making one.
