Charcoal, carbon, red oxide and pastels on paper.
27" x 34.5"

More than a month in the making, but I finally finished it, and in time. Charcoal and pastel are reeeeally fun to work with.
This was done using the recursive method of drawing; meaning I sponged in a thick layer of red oxide and then erased the drawing from it. After that I added in charcoal, layer by layer, and then finished off by adding a touch of pastel colour in the end. Yes, they're messy, but much easier to blend.

Also, being able to erase the drawing instead of actually drawing it took a bit of getting used to. Was definitely interesting and helped me gain a better understanding of highlights.

I know it looks like a bunch of crap, but we were given this huge mountain of things arranged in crazy ways. We were only supposed to pick out a portion and then draw that.

On a side note, drapery is very annoying.

I've finally gotten around to comment on this piece. Anyway, I do remember you showing the previous stages of this to me once before. It's really awesome to see the end result! I don't care what you say about other people being better because the fact is that you're just as talented. I think what I like the most about it is the texture. It looks SO good. The splatter is quite nice as well. Interesting still life as well! Where did you get those props?

LOL The splatter looks good? It was a complete accident! Those are oil stains as a result of a split second happening where I tipped my plate while trying to lift the drawing and I got some greasy cutlets all over it. Even worse: I went to wash my hands first before touching the drawing, so the paper soaked up a lot of the oil.

I didn't panic. Obviously. But it gave my classmates a heart attack! LOL

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to comment on my work as always~ :D

Really impressive considering this is on paper. I like working with charcoal but sadly I haven't got a good camera to take a pic with.

Back to your work; Impressive shading and precision and especially... continuity :)

Thank you for your comment! There was a LOT of layering involved with willow charcoal and then compressed charcoals. I used white charcoal too.
Unfortunately, this work of mine could, at best, only get me a C grade from my prof :p

I can guess; not a professional artist but I have worked with charcoal and will hopefully put up some decent works... lol back to you, I could guess there was layering but the fact that you had to use white charcoal too is impressive.

I don't know about your professor but I would say that for a lazy guy like me who works only in black and white... that was impressive work :) with no flattery ;)

To be honest, my entire class had works that were far better than mine, but I'm proud of how far I've come, nonetheless. If only I could deal with negative spaces a little better! Ah, and you reminded me. I forgot to put up the size~ I'll get around to measuring soon.

I still prefer black and white too. Though this monochrome with touches of colour was cool to work with also~

Well the fact your fellows are a lot better than that scares me; I would never want to join an arts school UNLESS I want it as a profession in which case... bring it on :D lol but as long as you are satisfied... it works :)
